All about the Upper Canal Basin

The main student areas in the Upper Canal Basin are Gladstone Road, Granville Road, Sydney Road and Cheyney Road. It’s little surprise why this area is a firm favourite, being only a stone’s throw away from Parkgate Road Campus.

With tree-lined streets housing beautiful Victorian terraces, the Upper Canal Basin has an urban atmosphere of its own. Take your pick from big traditional homes on Granville Road, or the newly refurbished and sleek houses on Sydney Road with, peaceful views of the canal located in the heart of the area.

The Upper Canal Basin is a great hub for transport around the city and further afield with several bus routes running through it. Why not take a trip to the famous Chester Zoo, which is an affordable and quick 15 minute bus ride.

Not to mention, the bright lights of Chester city centre (and perhaps more importantly the dark dancefloors) are only a few minutes’ stroll away through The Garden Quarter, making this the perfect place to call your home.

Parkgate Campus is a 2 minute walk away, Riverside is 22 minutes walk, Queens Park campus is 26 minutes and Kingsway is 30 minutes. Thornton Science Park is accessible via bus from Parkgate Campus which takes 25 minutes.
