You’re about to start a new chapter of your life, and whether you’re not moving far away from home or travelling hundreds of miles- the prospect of living independently for the first time can be quite daunting.
Take a read of our hints and tips below on what to expect, and the difference between sixth form/college and uni…
1. You’re not on your own
It’s very common amongst freshers to feel nervous about their new surroundings! You may experience as touch of homesickness in your first few weeks, but once you’ve settled in you’ll realise how far you’ve come.
2. You’ll gain independence
You’ll learn how to cook recipes and discover your favourites (as well as the occasional frozen pizza and takeaway), wash your clothes and get yourself in a functional routine. Help yourself along the way by perhaps inviting your flatmates to cook with you and run errands together! This way you’ll get to make friends whilst enjoying day-to-day tasks some more.
3. Motivation and perseverance is key
Living on your own also means you’ll have to learn to motivate yourself! No one else is going to do it for you!
”There will be moments where you struggle to get out of bed or finish off your essay due next week, but you’ll soon power through it and be proud of what you have achieved.” Fresh Student Living
4. Your workload will increase
As you’ll probably be aware, uni is definitely a step up from a-level. Don’t underestimate the complexity of your assignments, and buy a diary to keep on top of deadlines. They can sometimes be a day apart from each, other so time management is also a must!
5. Tomorrow is a new day, and a fresh start
Everyone has bad days. Each day at uni is unpredictable, so it’s important to make the most of every opportunity and smile.
Take a break, try some relaxation exercises or something you enjoy to release the stress, and start again.
